School Governors

School Governors

The role of a governor is vital to any school, the main aim of the governing body is to raise school standards and ensure that the school is managed effectively.  The governors will normally meet at least once a term to meet with the Head of School and key leaders to discuss all aspects of school life.  Members of staff are also invited to report to Governors at these meetings and this usually takes the form of an in-depth look at some aspect of the whole curriculum.

Parents are welcome at the termly meetings as observers, although governors retain the right to take certain agenda items as confidential.

The role of school governors:

  • Set the vision for the school’s future
  • Decide what is taught
  • Set standards of behaviour
  • Interview and select staff
  • Decide how the school budget is spent
  • Challenge the school leaders about performance
